The balanced assessment for a unit is intended to surface how students understand the mathematics in relation to the end of year goal of a Regents examination. To support retention, the balanced assessments are intentionally designed with spiralled questions from previous units.
We provide (1) student-facing materials, which includes four parts: a section with 8 multiple choice questions, a section with 3 constructed response questions worth 2 points each, a section with 1 constructed response question worth 4 points, and a longer contextual problem.; and (2) teacher tools, which include instructions and suggestions for how to use the assessment (which you may adapt or modify as you need), and a set of data tools to make sense of the resulting student performance data and plan next steps.
